The U-Turn
The u-turn, what have that to do with photography? Well, if you’re a roaming landscapeshooter using a car to get to your locations, how many times have you drove by a location only to realize that it’s just right when you look in the rear view mirror? That’s where the u-turn comes in. Don’t underestimate the power of turning back. There’s no reason to cures your self because you missed the shot.

The tripod search
As I mainly shoot landscapes, a tripod is as essencial as the lens and filters, so I thought I should share a little my experience with the tripods I use. For the past year I’ve been searching to find a tripod to become my main tripod. I’ve looked at many tripods as I want one that’s sturdy, lightweight, good quality and don’t cost you an arm or a foot in purchase since I’m on a budget. And yes, many of my heros use Gitzo. Moose Peterson uses Gitzo, Joe Cornish uses Gitzo, and the list goes on and on, but for me to buy a Gitzo carbonfiber tripod, would really…

File format
A friend asked me lately on what file formats I use in my workflow, so I thought I should give you some inside into what I use. In Camera In camera I shot exclusivly RAW-files or RAW with JPEG if I need easy access to view the files shortly after a shoot. Since JPEG can be view as similar to a digital version of the old Polaroid, I can’t see any reason to use this as my main file format for capture. Also the RAW-file holds more information when it comes to later post-prossessing of the file. From Camera to Hard Drive I import all NEF/RAW-files as DNG-files with the…

Come fall – Come all the colours
Finally summer is over, and many may think that this year, summer have abandoned us as the typical summerweather have eluded to show. But nature follows it’s normal course of the year, and that means that it have had it’s stark green coat on. I’m not writing this in a negative manner, but for me and I guess many other landscapeshooters, bright green vistas with an almost uniform hue of green don’t make for interesting pictures. So in the light of that notion, it’s like waiting for christmas for us when the calender tips from August and over to September. Suddenly the lovely colours begin to appear. First yellow…

Image-mainpulation revealed
In light of a recent article in Fotografi.no and on Foto.no, it have been revealed that the wildlife photographer Terje Hellesø have been caught in gravely manipulateing his images of eurasian lynxes. I feel then I should point out that I don’t support this type of image-manipulation. When documenting wildlife on should follow the same strict guidelines as set down by news agentcies and National Geographic. Even though wildlife and landscape share many simularities, and both take place in the realm of nature, with landscape one is captureing the mood and feel of the landscape. Those pictures are not meant to go into archives and museum-displays, they’re meant for peoples…

A blustery day at Jæren
Yesterday gave the promise of a cloudy day with high winds. Perfect for some action at the coastline of Jæren. A bit photographic “hung-over” from my trip last week to Hardanger and Telemark but still I wanted to shoot. I packed up my gear and drove down the coastline of fair Jæren. The weather at Jæren this day was promising. It could be a good “hair of the dog that bit me” to get me back into shooting. This type of weather is just what gives real drama to landscapes. Driving wind made it a bit hard to find stable conditions to get really sharp images. The windforce was up…
